The speed of light is incredibly rapid, traveling at approximately 299,792 kilometers per second (about 186,282 miles per second) in a vacuum. Despite its immense speed, it still needs time to traverse the space between celestial bodies. The average distance between the Sun and the Earth is about 149.6 million kilometers (approximately 93 million miles). This distance is often referred to as an astronomical unit (AU).
