Here are some key reasons behind the 1857 revolt: Military Grievances: The immediate trigger for the rebellion was the introduction of the new Enfield rifle, which used cartridges greased with animal fat (cow and pig fat). The cartridges had to be bitten open to load them, which offended both Hindu and Muslim sepoys (Indian soldiers in the British East India Company's army) due to religious beliefs.
